PORTLAND, OR-Eight months ago Dorlene Darius had a species change operation to change species from human to cat. At the time, she assumed that she would maintain her right to vote. When she went to vote in the recent Portland Mayor and City Council Race, she was denied the right to vote, on the basis that cats do not hold the same voting rights as humans do. Ms Darius has now filed a lawsuit against the City of Portland to regain her right to vote. The City of Portland responded with the following comment:

“The city of Portland holds very high standard on protecting the rights of its people. That being said, Ms Darius is no longer a human and as a result has lost the rights that humans in our great city have access to.” 

UPDATE: Dorlene Darius’s case has been dismissed on the basis that cats do not have the legal standing to sue in US Courts.
